Pursue a major in physics

Want to pursue a bachelor's degree in physics? Follow the steps below to get started.

Your first steps: Declare your major

There are no formal admission requirements for the physics major. Just be admitted to Missouri State and declare your major.
  1. Become a Bear: Apply to Missouri State. (If you’re not already a current student.)
  2. Before completing 60 credit hours, contact the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to declare or change your major to physics.

After you declare: Choose your degree and complete the program requirements

A comprehensive Bachelor of Science (BS) in physics let's you choose an option area and does not require a minor or second major.

Your option areas are:

  • Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Career Prep Physics
  • Materials Physics
  • Quantum Computing

Check with your advisor to determine which degree type is best for you.
