Physics, Astronomy, and Materials Science Department

The Physics, Astronomy, and Materials Science Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service in each of our disciplines, which allows us to provide the best possible learning environment for our undergraduate and graduate students. We offer a wide range of courses, from introductory level to advanced. Our faculty are deeply involved in research activities that include neural networks, the scholarship of teaching, the astrophysics of pulsating stars, and the fabrication and development of nanotechnology devices. Department members provide community service at the local, regional, and national levels.

Congratulations to Jacob Swett, a PHY major, who was recently selected for the BancorpSouth Academic Spotlight! The Academic Spotlight recognizes outstanding achievements by faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends at home football and basketball games. Jacob will be introduced in front of 6,000-11,000 fans on December 5, 2009 as he receives the Marsh W. White Award.
